MEI Secondary School
I have been attending MEI since kindergarten and I consider it a great privilege to be a part of such an incredible school. It has provided me with a top notch education where I can learn with a Christian worldview and grow spiritually as well.
The education at MEI is remarkable as a student learning is often very much dependent on the teacher and at MEI I have had some absolutely amazing teachers and each one has helped me learn, and grow. So many of my have built into my life, not only educationally but in my spiritual walk with God. Especially my grade 5 teacher, Mrs. Booker during my grade five year I hated weekends because I couldn’t wait to be in her class. She cared about her students so much and helped them in any way she could. Mrs. Booker is still one of my favorite teachers and I consider her not only a great teacher but a superb friend.
The extra-curricular options are amazing also, MEI’s Athletics is known for consistently ranking among the top programs in the province. I have been on the school swim team several years now and I have enjoyed it a lot. And while being involved in such an incredible athletics program is great, for me its music and theatre that really make me excited. I am involved in nearly all the musical groups that I can possibly be a part of. I am on the school worship team, in the Chamber Singers, and in the Concert and Marching Band. As a part of the worship team each week I am able to help lead the High School in worship, and use the gifts and talents I have been given to praise the Lord.
Through Chamber Singers and Band, I have had SO many opportunities. This year the Band and Choir went to Washington DC to compete in two festivals. While there I got to sing in front of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, visited so many sights, and perform in the Strathmore Center. That trip will never cease to be etched into my memory. I made new friends, and grew closer to old ones. I had so much fun and as a school we brought back several trophies and each group that performed received a Gold rating. Through these groups I have sung the national anthems at a Canucks game, performed halftime shows on the BC Lions field, and played for CBC, CTV, and so many others. I have also been involved in many of the plays and musicals the school has put on through these I have gotten to perform on stage and also become close friends with so many people offstage.
In each of these groups my favorite part is the friendships that form. The relationships I’ve made are what I cherish most about MEI, being in a community where so many believe that Jesus is Lord over all. I love the leadership opportunities and the people who I get to step up and lead with. I love that I can take a moment and just pray with someone in the hall. I love that I can become friends with my teachers and they are always there to help me. Because of MEI I know I am ready for the future, though I’m not sure where my path will lead, I am sure of one thing. I am ready. I am equipped, for life, and forever.
