Accounting Assistant, MEI Schools Finance Department

MEI schools is looking for the right individual to fill the key role of Accounting Assistant. This position is responsible for performing a variety of accounting, finance and administrative tasks for our Finance
Team. This role requires regular interaction with other internal departments. A successful Accounting Assistant should be familiar with full cycle accounting, very detail-oriented and have a desire to collaborate and assist other members within the Organization.

Key Responsibilities:
– Posting monthly journal entries, monthly bank reconciliations and other month-end work as assigned.
– Exporting/importing data from various applications, reformatting, and coding for the purposes of posting journal entries.
– Support the coordination and accuracy of monthly reconciliations of Balance Sheet accounts.
– Track, reconcile and record the monthly credit card transactions for card holders.
– Perform various administrative duties, including correspondence, data entry and electronic filing.
– Provide additional coverages for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable during various times of the year.
– Assist with year-end audit working papers and reconciliations as required.

Ideal Candidate:
– Accounting diploma or experienced bookkeeper
– Knowledge of accounting principles, rules and internal controls
– Demonstrate ability to accurately calculate, post and correct accounting records
– Advanced proficiency in working with accounting software and other digital technology (database, spreadsheets), use of Sage is considered an asset.
– High level of accuracy and attention to detail
– Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and ensure high quality of work within an acceptable time frame
– Displays confidentiality and professionalism.

The offer:
– Flexible hours with majority in a remote work from home format after training period is completed.
– Part-time, approximately 40-60 hours per month. More hours required in the last and first week of each month.
– Hourly wage (based on experience) plus 4% vacation pay, this position does not include health benefits and pension benefits.
– Position reports to Finance Manager
