Miriam taught and coached at MEI Schools from 1980 – 87.

It is with deep sadness that we share with you the passing of a dear sister, aunt, and friend, Miriam Joy. She passed away on October 11, 2017, surrounded by family members and the loving staff at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, BC.

Miriam Joy was courageous in her battle with cancer over the past eight years and taught us how to face life and its struggles with hope and faith. She drew great strength from her family, dear friends, and her faith in a loving heavenly Father.  Miriam Joy is survived by her two sisters, Ruth (Barry) Borthistle, Marylynne (Conrad) Wiebe, and her two brothers, Brien (Elaine) Powles, and Allen (Suzanne) Powles, and by a host of loving nieces and nephews.  Another part of Miriam’s legacy includes her dear friends who have faithfully stood by her side over these years. We are so grateful for each one of them.

Miriam was a teacher and coach from 1980-87 at MEI Schools, and during that time forged many strong friendships, many of which she continued throughout her life. She also often ran into former students who remember her as athletic, energetic, and someone who was able to draw out a high level of physical ability from her students. She is well loved and remembered within the MEI community.
