Special Education Assistant – Continuing, Full-time (30 hours/week)

The qualified Special Education Assistant will provide support to secondary school students with a varying range of needs.
The successful candidate will be a certified Educational Assistant.

Special Education Assistant – Temporary, Full-time (30 hours/week)

August 28, 2019 – June 28, 2020

The qualified Special Education Assistant will provide support to secondary school students with a varying range of needs.
The successful candidate will be a certified Educational Assistant.

Special Education Job Coach/Assistant – Temporary, Full-time (30 hours/week)

August 28, 2019 – June 28, 2020, Hours to be determined and may include hours outside of the regular school day

The qualified Special Education Job Coach/Assistant will:

  • Assess and coach students who receive provincial Tier 3 funding to determine their interests and abilities, and to help them prepare for workplace responsibilities. This can include interview coaching and role-playing activities to simulate workplace dynamics and foster an understanding of appropriate workplace behaviors.
  • Liaise with potential employers to assess needs and make recommendations for job candidates.
  • Liaise with local social service agencies and community organizations who support students and adults with diverse learning needs.
  • Directly supervise some students at their work placements.
  • Support students who receive provincial Tier 3 funding in completing their
    Graduation Capstone projects and Career Education courses.
  • Maintain relevant documentation.
  • Other EA duties as assigned.
  • The successful candidate will be a certified Educational Assistant.

Secondary School

Learning Support Teacher (Tier 2/Tier 3) – 0.57 FTE Temporary

from August 28th 2019 to June 30th, 2020

Valid BC Professional Teacher Certification or the potential to acquire it due to current certification in another Canadian province. This teacher will be providing case management, development and implementation of programs for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in using Ministry Special Education criteria and to set up and implement adapted or modified programs.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in creating extensive Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students meeting any one of the Ministry’s designations.
  • Skill in developing instructional and behavioural strategies to assist classroom teachers.
  • Strong communication skills as evidenced with parents, teacher and other School Based Resource Team members.

Secondary School Careers Program Teacher

Full-time (1.0 FTE) Continuing beginning August 28, 2019

It is expected that the Careers Program Teacher will:

  • Maintain and promote a comprehensive Careers Program at MEI Secondary
  • Oversee the continued implementation of the Career-Life Education (CLE) course
  • Implement and teach Career-Life Connections (CLC). Career Life Connections (CLC) is a
    new BC Ministry of Education graduation-required course that is replacing Grad
    Transitions
  • Explore, implement, and manage experiential learning opportunities for students taking
    CLE and CLC
  • Expand opportunities for MEI students in the areas of Dual Credit, Work Experience and
  • Apprenticeship Training

  • Create partnerships with employers, post-secondary institutions, community
    organizations and MEI alumni
  • Liaise with both MEI Middle School and MEI Elementary School to create a progression
    of learning in the area of career education and to provide increased connections
    between the three MEI schools in this area

Minimum Academic Qualifications/Experience:

  • Valid BC Teaching Certificate
  • Five years of school based teaching which includes a minimum of two years classroom
    experience in a career program and a minimum of one year as a Career Education
    Facilitator in a school or district

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

  • Master of Education Degree or equivalent with minimum course work in curriculum or
    leadership
  • Extensive local and provincial knowledge of career programs and current issues in delivery
    of service
  • In-depth knowledge of Careers Education (Grades 9-12)
