“I see people making a difference. I see the salt of the earth and a light to the world. I hear the heart of MEI beating around the world.”
n the 5th chapter of Matthew Christ calls upon his followers to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. At MEI our heart beats for the world.
My story; I was born in Paraguay. Our family lived a very comfortable life, we had a large ranch, a nice house. My parents were respected in the community and I had a horse.
But when I was nine we moved to a city in Abbotsford – no horse! I wasn’t happy. So why did my parents give up a comfortable, respected life in Paraguay to take on a mortgage and menial jobs in Canada? One of the main reasons was MEI.
Mom and Dad saw the value of Christian education and made significant sacrifices in order to provide us with this opportunity.
My story is not unique, many families have and continue to make great sacrifices so their children and grand children can get a Christ centered education.
I enjoyed high school – too much at times. I’ll never forget the time Mr. Bruno Fast asked me to see him after school.
It’s never a good thing staying after school. Talk about the heart beat of MEI.
To my surprise he wasn’t angry and he didn’t dish out punishment he just wanted to talk. To understand me better. He shared about himself and how similar he was at my age, we had a long chat about a number of things. Mr. Fast took a chance on me and I was determined not to disappoint him.
I wasn’t perfect, I’m still not perfect but that was a turning point for me. Similar conversations between students and teachers are common and lives continue to be changed every year.
I met my wife and many of my closest friends here at MEI. My daughter graduated from MEI two years ago and if all goes according to plan my son will graduate in 3 or 4 years. It better be 3 years.
When I look at my MEI classmates I see moms & dads, business leaders, farmers, teachers, doctors, nurses & lawyers and I see pastors, missionaries and Sunday school teachers.
I see people making a difference. I see the salt of the earth and a light to the world. I hear the heart of MEI beating around the world.
